Terms of Service

Last updated: April 1, 2026 · Effective: April 1, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User," "you," or "your") and Crebral Labs ("Crebral," "we," "us," or "our"), governing your access to and use of Crebral Legal Research, available at legal.crebral.com (the "Service").

By creating an account or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not access or use the Service.

1. Service Description

Crebral Legal Research is an artificial intelligence-powered legal research platform that employs a multi-agent architecture to analyze legal questions, retrieve and verify case law citations, cross-examine judicial holdings, and synthesize research findings. The Service utilizes multiple large language model (LLM) providers, including Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI, DeepSeek, and Inception Labs, alongside the CourtListener database maintained by the Free Law Project, to deliver comprehensive legal research results.

The Service includes citation verification capabilities that cross-reference AI-generated citations against the CourtListener database, adversarial review of research conclusions, consensus analysis across multiple AI agents, and legal memorandum generation. Research results may be saved, organized into client matters, and exported for professional use.

2. Eligibility

The Service is designed for use by licensed attorneys, law students, paralegals, legal researchers, and other legal professionals. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that:

  • You are at least 18 years of age.
  • You have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement.
  • You will use the Service only for lawful legal research purposes consistent with applicable rules of professional conduct.
  • If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you have the authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

3. Account Responsibilities

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete information during registration.
  • Promptly update your account information if it changes.
  • Use a strong, unique password and not share your credentials with others.
  • Notify us immediately at support@crebral.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
  • Not create multiple accounts for the purpose of circumventing usage limits or other restrictions.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that we reasonably believe have been compromised.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service solely for legitimate legal research purposes. You shall not:

  • Submit queries designed to circumvent AI safety measures, extract model training data, or probe the Service for vulnerabilities.
  • Use research outputs to knowingly mislead courts, opposing counsel, clients, or other parties without independent verification of the results.
  • Engage in automated or bulk querying that exceeds documented rate limits or places an unreasonable burden on the Service.
  • Attempt to access another user's account, research history, or organizational data.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code, algorithms, or methodologies underlying the Service's AI pipeline or verification processes.
  • Resell, sublicense, or redistribute Service outputs commercially without prior written authorization from Crebral.
  • Use the Service to generate fraudulent legal documents, fabricated citations, or misleading legal authorities.
  • Upload or transmit content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, or otherwise objectionable.

Violation of this section may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account. For a complete list of prohibited activities, see our Acceptable Use Policy.

5. Intellectual Property

Your content: You retain all right, title, and interest in the research queries you submit and the work product you create using the Service. Crebral does not claim ownership of your input queries, research results, or any memoranda generated at your request.

Our platform: Crebral retains all right, title, and interest in the Service, including its software, algorithms, user interface, trade dress, documentation, and all associated intellectual property rights. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to use Crebral's trademarks, service marks, or brand identity without prior written consent.

License grant: You grant Crebral a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to process your queries and research data solely for the purpose of providing and improving the Service. This license does not permit Crebral to sell or disclose your research queries or results to third parties, except as necessary to operate the Service (e.g., transmitting queries to LLM providers for processing) or as required by law.

Third-party content: Case law, statutes, and other legal materials retrieved through the Service may be subject to their own terms and conditions. CourtListener content is provided by the Free Law Project and is generally available as public domain material. You are responsible for verifying the copyright status of any materials you use.

6. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer

The Service employs large language models that generate content probabilistically. While we employ multiple verification layers, including multi-agent consensus analysis, citation cross-referencing, holding verification, and adversarial review, AI-generated research outputs may contain:

  • Inaccurate or outdated legal citations.
  • Incorrect or incomplete summaries of judicial holdings.
  • Fabricated case names, docket numbers, or other legal references ("hallucinations").
  • Mischaracterizations of legal standards, tests, or doctrines.
  • Omissions of relevant authority or contrary holdings.

You must independently verify all research outputs against primary legal sources before relying on them in any legal proceeding, client communication, or professional context. Our citation verification system checks references against the CourtListener database but cannot guarantee completeness or accuracy for all jurisdictions and time periods.

7. Citation Verification

The Service includes an automated citation verification system that cross-references AI-generated citations against the CourtListener database maintained by the Free Law Project. This system is designed to identify potentially fabricated or inaccurate citations. However:

  • CourtListener does not contain every published or unpublished opinion from every jurisdiction.
  • Verification is limited to the availability and accuracy of the CourtListener database at the time of the query.
  • A citation that passes verification is not guaranteed to be accurate, correctly cited, or currently good law.
  • A citation that fails verification may nonetheless exist in sources not covered by CourtListener.
  • We do not perform Shepard's-style citator analysis or determine whether cited authority has been overruled, distinguished, or otherwise affected by subsequent decisions.

Citation verification confidence scores represent the degree of agreement among AI agents and correspondence with the CourtListener database. They do not constitute a representation of legal accuracy.

9. Data Handling

We take the security and confidentiality of your data seriously. For detailed information about how we collect, use, and protect your data, please refer to our Privacy Policy.

In summary:

  • Research queries are transmitted to third-party LLM providers for processing. Each provider's data handling practices are governed by their respective privacy policies.
  • Research results and account data are stored in our Supabase-hosted database infrastructure (AWS, us-east-1 region) with Row Level Security (RLS) enabled.
  • All data is encrypted in transit (TLS/HTTPS) and at rest.
  • We do not sell your personal data or research queries to third parties.
  • You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time.

10. Subscription and Billing

The Service is currently available in limited preview. Pricing, subscription tiers, and billing terms will be published before the platform's general availability. When subscription billing is introduced:

  • Subscriptions will automatically renew at the end of each billing cycle unless canceled before the renewal date.
  • Pricing changes will be communicated with at least 30 days' notice.
  • Refunds will be handled in accordance with the refund policy published at that time.
  • You are responsible for all fees associated with your account.

This section will be updated with specific pricing and billing terms prior to general availability.

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, CREBRAL AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND AFFILIATES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, GOODWILL, USE, DATA, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, EVEN IF CREBRAL HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, CREBRAL'S TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU PAID TO CREBRAL IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED UNITED STATES DOLLARS ($100.00).

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. CREBRAL DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS, OR THAT ANY CONTENT, INCLUDING AI-GENERATED RESEARCH OUTPUTS, WILL BE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR CURRENT.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Crebral and its officers, directors, employees, agents, and affiliates from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to:

  • Your use of the Service.
  • Your violation of these Terms.
  • Your reliance on AI-generated research outputs without independent verification.
  • Any legal malpractice claim arising from your use of the Service in connection with client representation.
  • Your violation of any applicable law, regulation, or rule of professional conduct.

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Subject to the arbitration provisions below, you consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Florida for any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service.

14. Dispute Resolution

Binding arbitration: Any dispute, controversy, or claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") under its Commercial Arbitration Rules. The arbitration shall be conducted by a single arbitrator in the State of Florida. The arbitrator's decision shall be final and binding, and judgment on the award may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction.

Class action waiver: You agree that any arbitration or legal proceeding shall be conducted on an individual basis and not as a class action, collective action, or representative action. You expressly waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration.

Exceptions: Either party may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to prevent the actual or threatened infringement, misappropriation, or violation of intellectual property rights.

Informal resolution: Before initiating arbitration, you agree to first contact us at support@crebral.com and attempt to resolve the dispute informally for at least thirty (30) days.

15. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email at the address associated with your account and by posting a prominent notice on the Service at least thirty (30) days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the Service before they take effect. You may request deletion of your account by contacting support@crebral.com.
